Day 1

Tarangire National Park

Welcome to the start of your safari and welcome to Tanzania! You've chosen a fantastic place for your safari journey and we'll get you started with an introductory briefing before we head out to begin the trip you've been dreaming of.

Explore one of Tanzania’s most rewarding national parks, a land of big baobab trees, big elephants and big cats. No wonder this ends up being the favorite park in Tanzania for many visitors. Sightings of wildebeest, giraffes, hippos, buffaloes, baboons, vervet monkeys and zebras are also almost guaranteed. Lions are plentiful here – Tarangire is home to one of Tanzania’s healthiest lion populations. While you’ll have to work a little harder to see a cheetah or leopard, it will only enhance your excitement when you do. You can also look forward to classic safari scenery – savannah plains, river woodlands and rocky hills.

Arusha

It’s a world away from wildlife and wild lands, but Arusha is an essential part of the northern Tanzanian safari, with plenty of scenes of local life to enjoy.

This morning we'll be taking you to the next stage of your safari, but you'll also get to enjoy one last game drive along the way.

Explore fantastic Tarangire on a guided game drive that will take you out among the baobab trees to look for lions, elephants and more.

Accommodation Day 1

Tarangire Baobab Tented Camp

Tented camp

You'll really enjoy the location of Tarangire Baobab Tented Camp, which is inside Tarangire National Park in an area with lots of baobab trees. Elephants often wander into camp. Best of all, you'll be sleeping in canvas safari tents where you can lie in bed and listen to the animals at night. The tents have their own bathrooms and there's a dining tent.

Day 2

Lake Manyara National Park

Where the plains of northern Tanzania meet the Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara is a wonderful place to spend a safari day. Your highlights for the day might include getting up-close-and-personal with the elephants that made this park famous, lots of baboons, as well as one of few lion populations in Africa that spend much of their time in the trees. Between the forests at the foot of the escarpment and the lake that gives the park its name, enjoy rich birdlife and the chance of seeing predator ambush their prey.

Transfer Game Drive, Tarangire National Park to Lake Manyara National Park

Rest of Day

Join us for a guided game drive through the forests in Lake Manyara, where sightings of the park's elephants and tree-climbing lions are the main prize.

Escarpment Luxury Lodge

The views out over northern Tanzania from Escarpment Luxury Lodge seem to go on forever. The rooms are large and luxurious and there are views from the swimming pool, restaurant, some rooms and most public areas. It's an excellent base for visiting Lake Manyara National Park, which lies at the base of the escarpment.

Day 3

Karatu

In the busy provincial town of Karatu, with its constant stream of passing tourist traffic, the many places to stay mean you can rest from life on the road here. It’s big enough to have banks, shops (for both supplies and souvenirs) and a few roadside restaurants where locals eat.

Ngorongoro Crater

The day that awaits you in Ngorongoro Crater will be filled with wildlife and the sheer wonder of exploring an unusual world as picturesque as any safari park in Africa

Transfer Game Drive, Lake Manyara National Park to Ngorongoro Crater

Rest of Day

Your guided game drive down into and around Ngorongoro Crater, is one of the best safari experiences you can have in East Africa. Watch for lions, hyenas, black rhinos and more as you spend most of the day exploring the crater floor.

Accommodation Day 3

Acacia Farm Lodge

We think you'll enjoy staying at Acacia Farm Lodge, one of few places in Karatu where you get a view out over the green countryside. The lodge has elegant rooms (all with mosquito nets), and there's a restaurant, bar and massage room where you can relax. The friendly staff is another highlight of staying. It is just off the road between Ngorongoro and Lake Manyara.

Day 4

Karatu

Reacquaint yourself with Karatu with more time along its busy main street or tranquil back streets.

Ndutu

A more intimate version of the Serengeti, Ndutu is south of the main park and has plenty of wildlife. It sees fewer visitors than nearby Ngorongoro and the Serengeti and big cats are always a possibility here.

You’ll learn everything you need to know about the wildlife you’re seeing during the guided game drive in Ndutu.

Day 5

Central Serengeti National Park

When you explore the Central Serengeti, you're enjoying one of the best wildlife destinations in northern Tanzania. Here you'll find the big populations of wildlife for which the Serengeti is famous. You'll also have a good chance of seeing big cats. This area has plenty of northern Tanzania's iconic acacia trees, as well as seemingly endless Serengeti horizons.

In the UNESCO World Heritage–listed Serengeti, you’ll see big cats, very big elephants, giraffes and wildebeest herds, and classic Africa scenery that seems to go on forever.

Rest of Day

You'll enjoy the safari experience of a lifetime on your guided game drive through Serengeti National Park. A guide will help you look for big cats, elephants and more as you drive through so many classic safari landscapes.

Day 6 & 7

Masai Mara National Reserve

One of our favorite places to look for wildlife in Kenya is the Masai Mara National Reserve. That's because the wildlife here is incredible, with big cats (lions, leopards and cheetahs) and elephants among the highlights. There's a very good chance you'll also see giraffes, buffaloes, wildebeests, zebras, hippos, hyenas, and, of course, impalas. And bring your binoculars, because more than 500 species of birds have been recorded in the reserve. It's a place of beautiful savannah landscapes as well, with lots of acacia trees.
